Why was it ever considered acceptable behavior for a man to grab food off a secretary’s desk and claim it as his own? I have seen this happen in millions of movies and it always makes me furious. The dude is always charming and late and the secretary is always happy just to have his attention for the brief moment where he steals her breakfast.
You make more money than her! She needs that danish! You are a monster.
If someone ever took my food and tried to play it off as charming, I would hit them with so many chairs that no one in the world could sit. Don’t take food from anybody.
I was reminded of this by a commercial that plays in my company’s lobby all the time (http://www.themill.com/work/barclaycard-rollercoaster.aspx). In this one, at least the roles are reversed and he’s throwing her an apple, but it’s paired with a scene where he espies a woman shaving her legs and she does the same sort of dumb grateful smile. WHO WOULD REACT THAT WAY.
(posted with this image because Roman Holiday was the first movie I remember seeing this in, and we could all stand to see more handsome people wet together)
